The Discovery of the Sarahsaurus

On a trip to the Seaward Kaikoura Range to climb Te Ao Whekere, members of the group were astounded to find a dinosaur sunning itself on a cliff face in the Puhi Puhi Valley. While science suggests dinosaurs have been extinct for 66 million years, this vibrant specimen offered “undeniable” evidence to the contrary.

Identified as a Sarahsaurus, this species is renowned among local trampers for its incredible stamina and ability to traverse long distances at high speeds. It seems the creature prefers the high-altitude sunshine of the South Island to the swampy lowlands of the Mesozoic era.

However, the mystery deepens. During a recent excursion to the Ferny Gair Conservation Area, the group located the fabled ‘Dinosaur Cave.’ While the cave exists, the Sarahsaurus was nowhere to be found—perhaps it’s currently out on a long-distance run across the ridgelines.
